not your sun sign. your 7th house.

loveOct 28, 2026

Come sit. If you keep falling for people who can’t quite show up, the emotionally unavailable, the almost-ready, the “it’s complicated”, you’ve probably checked your sun sign compatibility more than once. Maybe you’ve decided you’re just unlucky.

I don’t think you’re unlucky. I think you keep recognizing the same kind of person and calling it chemistry. And your sun sign is the wrong place to look for why.

Your sun sign describes your core identity: how you shine, what drives you. It’s important. But when the question is “why do I keep choosing them?”, astrology usually points somewhere else first: your Venus sign and your 7th house.

venus: what you mistake for love

Venus is the planet of love, attraction, pleasure and what you value. Its sign in your chart describes how you love and what makes you feel loved. It’s also, quite often, what you’re drawn to before you’ve had time to think.

That’s why I say Venus shows what you mistake for love. The feeling of attraction is real. But attraction is shaped by what’s familiar, and familiar isn’t always good for you.

A few broad examples, by element:

These are starting points, not verdicts. The sign is one layer; the house it sits in and the aspects it makes add a lot more.

the 7th house: who you keep letting in

The 7th house is the house of partnership: committed relationships, close one-to-one bonds, and also open rivals. Its starting point is the Descendant, the point directly opposite your rising sign.

Astrologers often describe the Descendant as the qualities we look for in others, sometimes because they’re qualities we haven’t fully owned in ourselves. If your rising sign is independent Aries, your Descendant is in Libra: you may keep being drawn to partners who are graceful, diplomatic, relationship-focused. If your rising is reserved Capricorn, your Descendant is in Cancer: you may look for someone who carries the tenderness you keep hidden.

The 7th house also shows which planets live in your partnerships. Saturn there is often read as relationships that feel serious, delayed or heavy with responsibility. Neptune there can point to idealizing partners or loving potential. Uranus can point to on-off, freedom-hungry connections. Again: tendencies, not destiny.

One important note: houses depend on your birth time. Without an accurate time, your 7th house can’t be placed reliably.

when you read them together

Here’s where it gets useful. Venus tells you what pulls you in. The 7th house tells you who you end up partnering with. When you read them side by side, a lot of “bad luck” starts to look like a pattern.

Imagine someone with Venus in Pisces and Neptune in the 7th house. Venus says: I’m drawn to the soulful, the wounded, the one who needs me. The 7th house says: I tend to see partners as who they could be, not who they are. Put those together and “I always fall for people who disappear” stops being a mystery. It’s the same recognition, repeating.

That’s not a curse. It’s information. And information is the first thing you need to choose differently.

chiron: why they feel familiar

There’s one more placement I always read for love patterns: Chiron, often called the wounded healer. In astrology, Chiron represents a core wound, something that hurt early and still aches when it’s touched, and also where we can become wise and helpful to others.

When a new person touches the same place your Chiron sits, they can feel instantly familiar. “I’ve known you forever.” Sometimes that’s real connection. Sometimes it’s the old wound recognizing an old story.

how to start reading your own pattern

You can begin tonight, with a free birth chart from any reputable chart calculator and your birth date, time and place.

  1. find your Venus sign and house. Write down one sentence: “I’m drawn to…”
  2. find your Descendant (the cusp of your 7th house) and any planets in the 7th. Write: “The people I end up with tend to be…”
  3. list your last three significant relationships. For each one, write what pulled you in during the first month, and what made it end.
  4. look for repeats. Same pull? Same ending? Circle anything that shows up twice.
  5. find your Chiron sign and house. Ask: does the ending of these relationships touch the same sore spot?

Most people see something by step four. That’s the moment it stops looking like bad luck.

let me read it with you

Doing this yourself is a real start. But the full pattern usually lives in how the three placements talk to each other, and that’s hard to see from inside your own story.

That’s exactly what I write in your love pattern reading: your Venus, your 7th house and your Chiron, read together around the one question you bring me, why you keep choosing who you choose. It’s $7, written for your chart, not your sun sign: get your reading.

questions

what does venus mean in a birth chart?

Venus represents love, attraction, pleasure and values. Its sign describes how you express affection and what makes you feel loved, and its house shows the area of life where those themes play out.

what does the 7th house say about relationships?

The 7th house is the house of partnership and committed one-to-one relationships. Its sign (the Descendant) and any planets in it describe the kind of partners you tend to attract and the dynamics that show up with them.

do I need my birth time to find my 7th house?

Yes. Houses are calculated from the exact time and place of birth. Without a birth time, you can still read your Venus sign, but your 7th house and Descendant can't be placed accurately.

why do I keep attracting emotionally unavailable people?

In astrology, repeated attraction to the same type is usually read through Venus, the 7th house and sometimes Chiron, rather than the sun sign. Patterns like this often reflect what feels familiar, which isn't always what feels good.
